One afternoon, I was working at the wedding of a very wealthy woman, where I served as the main coordinator. I had been helping plan this wedding for months. But when I saw the groom for the first time, my heart nearly stopped. It was him—my Daniel.
I’m Lily, 28 years old, and I work as a private event planner. Today was the most lavish wedding I’d ever organized, all for Vanessa, a 38-year-old heiress to a fashion company. She wanted a dream wedding, and I was here to make it happen.
I had flown in from another city to manage everything. Vanessa had clear expectations, and I wanted to meet them all. What neither of us expected was that the night would take such a shocking turn.
Vanessa was marrying a businessman named Eric—someone I had never met, even though I’d worked with her for months.
“My fiancé lets me handle everything. He’s very busy with work,” she told me during our meetings.
It always seemed strange to me that he didn’t join even one meeting, not even to choose the food or music. When I asked if he might want to help pick the band, Vanessa simply laughed and said he trusted her taste completely.
Still, the mystery around the groom stayed in the back of my mind as the big day got closer.
But nothing could have prepared me for what was coming.
On the wedding day, the venue was alive with activity from early morning. I managed every detail—from the white tablecloths to the gold decorations and crystal glasses.
“Make sure those plates are stacked by size, and check off the glasses with the caterer’s list,” I instructed the setup crew.
Soon, the hall filled with soft music and the sound of excited guests. Then the emcee’s voice rang out: “Please welcome the groom, Eric!”
Finally, I’d get to see the man who had been such a mystery.
A sleek black limo pulled up. The door opened, and stepping out was Daniel—my Daniel. The same man who disappeared six months ago, leaving me heartbroken and broke.
My body froze. My heart raced as I watched him look around like he belonged there. His eyes met mine—but there was no sign he recognized me. Just cold, blank indifference.
I couldn’t believe it. The man I had once planned a wedding with was now walking into someone else’s—under a different name.
And just like that, all the pain came flooding back. The morning I woke up and he was gone. The empty closet. The drained bank accounts. The lies.
Daniel had left me with nothing—no money, no explanation.
Now, here he was, smiling and shaking hands like the perfect gentleman, about to ruin someone else’s life the way he ruined mine.
I knew I had to do something before Vanessa got hurt.
I remembered it all so clearly… Daniel
One night, Daniel and I were discussing our upcoming wedding plans in our cozy bedroom, the room bathed in the gentle glow of the bedside lamp.
"And how’s everything coming along with the wedding plans?" I inquired, aware of his lead on organizing our celebration.
He looked concerned. "Well, all the major payments are done. The venue, the caterers, the band, and the decorators," he explained. "But I've used up all the funds."
Confused, I pressed on, "All the funds? Even the money we set aside?"
"Yes," Daniel sighed. "That and a bit more from my own accounts. There’s been a hitch with my project. The payment I was supposed to get this month has been delayed."
"Of course, I understand. Things happen," I reassured him.
"Could you sign a power of attorney in my name? Just so I can handle the payments more smoothly," he asked.
Trusting him completely, I agreed. "I got the confirmation from the bank today. You can use my accounts now. They said the power of attorney paperwork was all in order."
"Thank you, Lily. I promise this wedding is going to be everything we’ve dreamed of and more."
That night, as we drifted to sleep, I felt secure in our love. To me, Daniel was already my husband, and to him, I was already his wife. We had exchanged rings privately, but to the world, we were still an unmarried couple.
I trusted him with everything, yet I was unaware it would be our last night together... (continue reading in the 1st comment)
